Hi Victoria,
Prides age is UNKNOWN, my vet has GUESSED between 18 and 22, Had another vet GUESS at 20-25, but both agree he is not over 25, so to answer your question I would have to say in his early twenties. I have had him 16 months now, Time for another float!!!
One thing i have noticed with him tho is he doesnt keep his weight well in the winter, I had to up everything in the winter, but in the spring and summer he packs, keeps the pounds on really well, Just a older horse thing i guess, not sure if it is contributed to his rescue and the fact that he was rescued in the winter so his body goes in overwork then to try and store food???
I have also RECENTLY switched him from alf cubes to alf hay, that seems to be helping, the Major thing that helped him was Biotic 8, if you can get your hands on some of that, it just really helped with his digestive issues and tons of small meals, and free range hay, what i did because i didnt want him to overload on hay was i had this plastic half rain barrel i would keep it stuffed of local hay all of the time and feed the timothy ( what i fed at his rescue) one flake at a time mixed in with 5-7 flakes of local, lots and lots of beet pulp, alf cubes, and get a really good grain, dont bother with the OIL, Ricebran, cool calories etc until you are sure the digestive system is working, I didnt even add ricebran till i think month 4, I kept it simple and fed lots but small qualities between 6-8 meals a day ( 1/4 c then 1/2c then a cup of grain per time grandually cutting down the amount of meals but adding more grain takes about a month or two) and worked up to 2 grain meals a day and 4 hay feeds per day.
GOOD LUCK!!! feel free to ask me any other Q!!!
