Here is the boy that arrived at my place on March 5 2010. He is a 24 year old T/B who has some "issues. Between 250 and 300 lbs underweight and caked with manure and mud along with caked urine on his hind legs (see the dark stuff). He is bright eyed and loving being alive. Not crazy about being cleaned but we are going at it slowly everything is slowly.

He saw his vet on Friday and had his teeth started (did not do the full meal deal because we did not want to stress him too much, just took off the spikes and realigned his teeth), tetnus shot, sheath cleaning and blood panel along with manure sample. I am hoping to get the results back today. After that I will have a better idea what else we need to do for this sweet boy.

Please keep your fingers crossed for him. Oh and a big thanks to Bec for giving me some idea how to post this picture.

Here is a picture I took the same day of his spine and hips. Will be getting a picture today of his back end under his tail.

Well I hope this worked, here are a couple of pictures I took of him this weekend wanted some before pictures that showed his back and ribs well. He seems to be happier and "rounder" than he was when he arrived, could just be proper hydration. He eats as much as he has time for. Got results of his blood panel and fecal sample - everything is clear but I am concerned that it might be a false negative on worms as he was de-wormed two weeks before I got him. Bringing the vet back in early April to touch up his teeth and will have another sample taken then.

Wow, Victoria, he looks like he's got a ways to go with the groceries, but it is so good to hear that the bloodwork came back negative, one less thing to worry about.

Good for you for going slowly with him and easy on the dental and scrubbing the muck off, it's so tempting to just do it all at once, but thank goodness you are patient and thinking of his well being.

I can tell you from the multitude of horses we have had through the rescue, that it's amazing to watch them bounce back. Like you said, with just a few days of good mash and hydration, how they so quickly seem to perk up and round out in those sunken areas. It gives us all hope !!!

So glad to hear Echo is spending all his 'free time' eating, that's exactly what we do, hay, hay and more hay each day! Then we slowly start the beat pulp, and soaked alfalfa cubes, and then the pellets.

It will be great to see some more progress pictures of him when you have time, and I'm certain that Echo is absolutely so grateful that you came into his life!

Thanks Sandy.

I am happy with the way he is coming along I took his blanket off for a friend at the farm, she had not seen him naked for a week or so, she was thrilled with the change in him. I cannot see it as easily as she can because I see him every day. He is looking less "caved" then he did when he arrived.

I will be re-assessing Echo in a few months. At this point my farrier thinks he has Cushings although it did not show up in the blood panel. I cannot say for sure that he will be strong enough to go through the winter in comfort.

He is begining to show his true character, strong willed, stuborn and admittedly a bit pushy. I have begun trying to enforce manners around people. He has a tendency to try to walk through you and can be a bit dangerous. Silly boy will need to begin to show some respect but if that is the only problem we are lucky.

For Echo right now everything is day by day. One really bright note though - yesterday he was actually more interested in his new neighbour than his food. That, believe me, is a first.

I will post more pictures of him in a month or so, hopefully they will show improvement.
