An Azteca horse breed was created by mixing Andalusian and American Quarter breeds as well as Criollo bloodlines. This is a fairly new breed, created in Mexico in the early 1970’s. Azteca horses stand at 14.3 – 16.1 hands high and weigh about 1000 pounds (450 kg) The colors are solid. The most popular one is gray, but you can find a roan and pinto as well. Their heads are lean, the profile is straight, the ears are small, the neck is muscular and arched, the back is straight, the legs are muscular, and the mane is long and flowing. Azteca horses have a mild temper. They are fairly easy to train, like to play, and eager to work. At the same time, they are intelligent and strong, which makes them suitable for almost any purpose. Right now, they are mostly used at horse shows, for pleasure riding, and transportation. Some owners still use Azteca breed for work.
