Gypsy Vanner horses were developed over 100 years ago in England where they were used as driving horses. In North America, they are currently used as trail, show, and pleasure riding animals. All colors and markings are acceptable for these horses. However, they usually come in black and white (piebald) coloring. Skewbald (red and white, brown and white) is possible as well. They can also come in solid colors with white markings underneath. Gypsy Vanner horses stand about 14 – 15.2 hands high. They are considered to be small to average size animals with a draft body type. Gypsy Vanners have a short back, deep and broad chest, sloping shoulders, prominent muscles, arched and strong neck. They have voluminous feathering that starts in the knee area and goes to the bottom of their legs. The mane and tail are silky and can be either straight or wavy.
