Hackney is a warm-blooded equine suitable for dressage, riding, jumping, and various work. This is a multi-talented and very intelligent horse, which has been used for various tasks over the years. These horses are not big but have a great stamina. They stand about 14 – 15.3 hands high and weigh about 1000 pounds (450 kg). Their coat colors are black, bay, chestnut, and brown. Some Hackneys have spotted coats. Hackney horses appeared in the 17th century in Great Britain. Their ancestors were Yorkshire Roadsters, Arabian, Thoroughbred, and Norfolk Trotter. Hackney was developed to replace heavy coach horses, which were used on the rough roads. Once the roads became smoother, agile and resilient horses replaced heavy and hard-working equines. Hackney’s amazing trotting ability earned these horses great popularity. They can easily trot 100 km per day. These horses are not too easy to train due to their nervous temperament. Hackneys make stylish carriage horses and can also be used for racing. Several Hackney horses for sale can be found on this website.
